RE: Post Your Ride(s) Here
Alfie, trying to workout your car there.. Looks like has a Calais front? but without the Crome around the top of the bonnet? is it an 8 or a 6?

So thought I'd add a few more pics for the garage collection
on the theme of EH from Afie, this is one of the cars i'd love to Build one day.

This is a mates VN SS we work on all the time.. it's the "camp fire" of our group, note: this pic he has the wheels of my VK on it...

This is the SS, only a couple of weeks ago, we went of a VN SS club cruise was amazing day. this thing, has a bit of work done, including we fitted the interior with Red Leather from a Monaro similar to VY.

And this is the result of a VIC EPA Warrant I had on the VK, had to do a dodgy to get it over the line.. but it passed with flying colours..

What that image doesn't tell is the flange we put in just before the rear muffler with a plate in it.. with a few holes drilled through.. Car had no go..

so 90db is loudest legal noise you can have for a car after 1984 and pre 1984 is 95db, it's measured from ~15/20cm from the end of the exhaust tip.

Naa was a sheetmetal plate with a few drill holes in it.. I put a flange on the end of the pipe.. because usually I ran it without the rear muffler, so just before the rear exhaust mount cut it off put in a muffler and flanged all parts so if i ran into trouble again, just bolt up the muffler.. Wish I still had the car to show you.. the alternative was to buy one of those "varex" mufflers which I'm not sure are legal anyhow but yeh they have a little gate inside them where you can make the car louder or quieter from a remote.. however they are about $400 which I wasn't keen on spending.

RE: Post Your Ride(s) Here
Its measured from an inch or two from the exhaust.

They clip it on.. If you notice the picture drawn by the Noise Tester the reason for that is because he could have a straight through pipe or one muffler packed with steel wool.
They display the reading and how it was achieved by diagram just in case the EPA pull him up or ordit the engineer. If its 80db and it has one muffler or not cat, then they know something dodgy is being achieved.. and 2db over 90db is allot and takes quite a bit to hush down legally...

It varies a lot depending on the engine / mods done.. / how well it breathes, but to be honest 90db is not very loud, it's about what the standard commodore / ford would be at.

I'd imagine 3.5" cannon would be up at ~105dB? keep in mind sound is measured logarithmically meaning that each increment of 1 db is not the same as the last..

VK with the 1 muffler straight through prior to this test pulled in at 112dB and was told to go home and fix it.

Canon's don't necessary make a car loud, its the amount of flow into the cannon that makes the sound.

If you have a Subaru with a 2.5inch and cannon id say it would be slightly over 90db if they exhaust system is more then a few years old.. I will upload a video of my flatmates LS1, it runs a twin 2.5 inch and sits at about 88db at idle lol

You should hear it when he stands on the skinny pedal, you can literally hear him from about 3k's away...

HAHA.. LOVE that go fast pedal!! The other thing to keep in mind if EPA jump on your back is they take 2 measurements. 1 at idle.. and 1 at "peek" which is ~70% of max RPM, which is usually just a bit short of redline, and they have a book that depends on your engine code as to what RPM they need to test you at..

In the test above you see the block number has a "VT" code which means something to the EPA guy as to what it needs to be tested at..
