need to think of a first car, any help?
hey there fellas, a new post in the garage section, crazy isnt it?

anyway i'm at that point where i need to look at driving,
getting my license, all that stuff.

main interests are;
reliability
fuel efficiency
doesnt look like something that would cause people to question my sexuality

any help?
also im pretty illiterate when it comes to cars so you might have to explain some parts of the lingo.

cheers, the sexiest bear in australia

I hate to sail on this rotten tub

And it's time for us to leave her

Get a bike Smile

Nah toyotas and hondas are good first cars, easy to find parts, can do what you want with them with minimal cost Smile and and and unless your into tuning it up, reliable to a T and will last you a number of years, just need to find a 4 or 6 cylinder with a good price, not owned by a young guy and low Kms.

Or just sell your house and buy a Porsche Tongue

RE: need to think of a first car, any help?
I loved my old Toyota Corolla, small car cheap to run and always a dream to drive.
Never really cost me much at servicing time and as Ace said, parts are easy.

Stay away from Peugeot, Skoda, great wall, Citroen,

Japanese and European (the more recognized ones atleast) are all good but i guess it comes down to preference.

Size
Mobility(how far do you plan on taking it as a daily driver)
COST? How much you looking to spend
Do you need to TOW anything
Do you need to carry stuff(ute/van)

You know the other main questions people dont really think of haha

very valid points there Ace
Also look at insurance for your age as this is a big one.
you have the CTP (compulsory third party) or full comprehensive

RE: need to think of a first car, any help?
Well a good starting point is work out how much you want to spend FIRST that will narrow it down to what's out there ? sorry Ace but as for Honda they are far too expensive to fix .

Money first
manual / Automatic
power steering
Air con
2 door 3 door 5 door
sedan / wagon

Mazda 3
Mazda 6
Toyota corolla
NOT astra / vectra / etc they have inherited faults
NOT peugoet of any model
NOT saab
NOT audi
it really is about what you can afford

good luck

well automatic, lots of leg room (im a taller guy) and four seats are the only things i'll really *need*. after that comes price of course, cost of maintenance, reliability and efficiency, if that helps narrow things down.

cheers for the suggestions btw

edit: pretty sure i could go halfway and get a tuk-tuk

RE: need to think of a first car, any help?
Everyone's first car should be a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T... but in lieu of that Hondas are super-reliable and fuel efficient. The only issue is that servicing can be expensive if you do it at Honda.
